Tuesday. Rain, pretty hard. Levee commenced on Riverton yesterday. Wrote Mary in reply, I will give as promised $500 per annum for her support (not including the $150 sent her for her Baltimore trip).
Wednesday. Mr. Chiapella came up on 11:15 am train. Mr. Brand dined with Mr. Chiapella and myself. The latter brought up a fish and piece of beef, very nice.
Saturday. Wrote Estes & Lauriat with cheque for $7 for the "Natural History of the World". Sorting old letters, almost everyday. Reading Busch's Bismark - also Jefferson's "Book of the Table". Much curious and interesting information about eating and cookery in ancient and modern times.
Sunday. The Tuckers called to ask leave of absence to visit their Texas cattle ranch. Granted. Wrote A. Delvaille with cheque for $25 - dues to Boston Club to June 1st.
Monday. Went to lower places on 3 pm train of T. & P. R.R. Mr. Chiapella came up from New Orleans on 7pm Mississippi Valley R.R.
