For the week of April 28, 1885

Tuesday.  To Expositon.  Bought dictionary holder and latest edition of Worcester's Dictionary.  To office.
Wednesday.  To Exposition in morning and again in evening - carrying Mr. and Mrs. Beirne and Nanny with me, to hear Mexican Band.  Tedious delay in street car coming home.
Thursday.  Met Randal Tucker.  He will try and come up to the Houmas.  Called on Senator and Mrs. Gibson.  Talked with Preston Johnson.  He begged me to see him tomorrow at his office to talk about university organization.  Met Jervey Robinson.
Friday.  To Preston Johnson's office by appointment and talked with him about the curriculum of the Tulane University.  His views I think are generally judicious, sensible and practical.
Saturday.  To Boston Club.  Saw Aroni - he looks pretty well again.  To office.  Got tabulated statement of expenses, crops, etc for 1884.  Total loss on years operation $122,000.  Returned to the Houmas on 7:00 train.
Sunday.  To church.  Meeting of vestry.  We agreed to give Mr. Stuart the same salary as last year.  Vis $900 and the offerings (say nearly $100).
Monday.  Cane has greatly improved in my absence.  All managers agree that they never saw a better stand or better prospect of a crop.  Wrote Mr. Beirne to this effect.
