For the week of March 17, 1885

Tuesday.  Wrote Randolph & Co. with cheque for $3 for Gray's Poems.  Wrote General Brent for copy of my letter of August 24th last summer.
Wednesday.  Wrote Aunt Nanny (St. James) enclosing letter to her opened by me my mistake.
Friday.  Cloudy, cold, heavy rain at night.  Wrote General Brent in reply thanking him for my letter of August 24th, 1884 (which I copied and returned) and for his cordial invitation to come and see them and be sociable.  Burning old letters.
Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Beirne and Mrs. MacFarland came in the "Gay" about 6 o'clock in the morning for Valcour Aire plantation.
Friday.  Wrote a letter to Mr. Kenner for Mr. Beirne to copy and send in his own name - offering to exchange Riverton for Houmas Plantation, acre for acre, and to pay $10 per acre to boot. (This is to show that Mr. Beirne does not think that mere acreage ought to be basis upon which to pay the $20,000 lawyers' fees in Houmas grant suit, proportionally by Mr. Kenner and Mr. Beirne - but value of the land.)
