Tuesday. Went on 11:15 A.M. train to Ashland and accompanied General Brent to Judge Duffel's to dinner by invitation. Large company - some 14 gentlemen and ladies of the family, 20 in all, at two long tables. Good & abundant dinner & plenty of wine. Shrimps - turtle soup - red snapper - fine roast mutton & chops - various vegetables including tomatoes & green corn & artichokes. Quite pleasant. Returned home with General Brent and spent to night at Ashland.
Wednesday. Drove over crops with General Brent. Judge Duffel not well enough to join us at dinner as he expected to do. Very pleasant day. Mrs. Brent an uncommonly nice & agreeable woman.
Saturday. Had a good rain yesterday and today, much needed. Cane doing well.
