March 9, 1884, Sunday

Clear, delightful.  Went to church.  Mrs. Harrison says Mr. Koch is quit ill and suffering.  Called on Governor Nichols, who is staying with Mr. Pugh.  Not at home.  Saw old Mr. Turcuit and Octave.  Both report stubble very bad and seem "blue" about prospect of crop.  Nous verrons.
Mr. Brand, Mr. Tucker of the Clark and Mr. Tucker of New Hope dined with me.  Turkey and ham - Claret.
River within 14 inches of high water mark of last year.
