Nichols, in reply, that my long absence from the state had prevented me sooner receiving and answering his letter appointing me one of the committee sent to Washington by Sugar Planters Convention in the interest of the sugar growers to try and influence Congress against the ratification of Mexican Treaty in which sugar is put on free list and also against any further reduction of duty on sugar.
