July 5, 1883, Thursday

Cloudy.  No ploughing on any places on account of rains yesterday afternoon and two days before.  Went to Riverton, work is progressing well.  When in city saw Mr. Edwards who told me I could assure Mr. Beirne he need feel no anxiety about work at sugar houses being done in time and that the work at Houmas places was more advanced than at any places he knew.  Saw Leeds and Mitchell, they too said all their work would be ready in time.  Wrote all this to Mr. Beirne on 2nd.
Wrote Mrs. Beirne about governess for children and my reasons for sending Sally and Betty to stay with their Aunt Jeanie instead of boarding with Mrs. Lefebore.
