March 9, 1883, Friday

Bright and Clear.  Delightful.
Visited the corn boat. Mr. Breaux finished getting his quota (3000 bu.) this morning and Mr. Lawless is now getting his. Will finish tomorrow.
At 1:00 pm walked with Mrs. Beirne and Miss Perouueau on levee. Mr. Beirne went again to look at railroad line. Wrote Betty. Wrote Willy.

This was the day that Wiggins, the rival of Venner as a Weather Prophet, has long predicted was to witness a fearful and disastrous storm - one that was to overwhelm all the low country near the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Coast near the Gulf Stream, and extend across the North Atlantic, destroying every vessel on its surface.
