March 8, 1883, Thursday

Cloudy - Mr. and Mrs. Beirne came on the Cannon at 4:30 am.
Mr. Breaux, who could haul no corn from boat yesterday on account of rain - began hauling again this afternoon.  He has gotten nearly one half of his quota.
Mr. Beirne and Mr. Miller - engineer of the M. & N.O. Railroad rode over line which the company have agreed with Mr. Beirne to run - one less damaging to the Clark and Donaldson than the one last run by engineers.
Too wet for any plantation work.  Wrote Nanny - saying I was glad she would not sail until next month (April 11th) - in the same steamer - the "Harmonia."
