Extremely sultry.  The weather for some time excessively hot.  Last night most oppressive.  Wrote Richie sending cheque for $30.85, amount due him.
Went to New Orleans on 12:37 P.M. train which was delayed by the non-arrival of the Lafourche boat about and hour.  General and Mrs. Brent and Mr. Kenner on train.  Told General Brent I would send  Judge Duffel's arbitration to Mr. Beirne and withdraw from the matter.  He said he would do the same and we would leave Mr. Beirne and Mr. Hanson to settle the matter themselves.
