June 3, 1884, Tuesday

Cloudy, rain in afternoon.  Went to New Hope and Ascension.  Walls of sugar house about finished.  Cane shed up and ready for roofing.  Chimney about 15 feet above ground.  Brick and carpenters work first rate.  Never saw better.  Casey the carpenter is very intelligent, quick and energetic man.  Major Dunn as a brick-layer cannot be surpassed.  Mr. Sandys came home with me and dines and spent the night.
