April 20, 1884, Sunday

Weather so threatening we did not go to church.  Letter from Mr. Beirne last night saying "I want you and Sally to come down on Monday, without fail."  So I suppose we must go - though I told Mr. Beirne I wished to vote for Mr. Gibson on Tuesday and would go to New Orleans on that day.  He has forgotten the election - or there is some very pressing reason for his wishing us to be in town one day earlier.
