Got message from Mr. Turcuit of Ascension that Mr. Beckner (bookkeeper) was dead. Went at once with Mr. Brand to Ascension store and looked at the books and counted cash on hand. In safe we found $1103.60. Books only calling for $995.85. Probably Mr. Beckner had money on deposit for some of the hands.
