October 6, 1883, Saturday

Very warm.  Went to Orange Grove and Clark in morning.  Cutting cane for mill at both.  Will commence grinding Monday and Tuesday.  Heard that the cane at New Hope where they began grinding yesterday was turning out well. Wrote Richie begging him to enquire if Berry has packed my engravings & pictures carefully, so that I could bring on safely by railroad freight this fall.  Wrote Mr. Villiere with cheque for $10.57. Told him to send me some bitters.
