May 6, 1883, Sunday

Clear - very warm in sun.  Went all over St. James with Mr. Turcuit.   Agreeably disappointed.  He is well up in his work - no grass in his cane - and has about finished his 3rd ploughing.
Went, partially, over the Armant.  Everything there looks well, except a little fall planted cane.  At both the St. James and the Armant the prospect of the crops is considered very fine, better than average - though a month or more behind last years.
Dined with Mr. Bookner and took train for Donaldsonville at 5:30 P.M. reaching there at 6:30 P.M. in time for ferry boat and got home before 8 o'clock.
