May 30, 1883, Wednesday

Clear - very warm.  Went over to New Hope.  Not much change in crops.  Corn very good.  Storm coming up did not go to Ascension.  Hard rain after I got back over river.  But did not get wet.  Dr. Love and Mr. Youngblood stopped in out of the rain, by my invitation.  Got home about 5:00 P.M.  Ate a mouthful for dinner - no appetite.  The doctor and his companion - the new editor of the Ascension Democrat - sat at table with me - but had already dined.  At night felt very badly and went to bed at 8 P.M.  Had a pretty hot fever all night and most uncomfortable time.
