Rainy - Rained pretty much all last night and first part of today. River fell yesterday and is now about 4 inches below last years highest mark. But it is still raining.
Wrote Mr. Beirne that cistern bottoms and bad sugar from Ascension and New Hope had turned out 10 heads (13,262 lbs.) of "yellow clarified" - and that it was an anxious time about the river, I would not go down to attend church council on Wednesday. Wrote Ballejo for mackerel. Wrote Villere sending check for $12 for sherry last sent.
Jack, who has been driving me, ran away last Saturday. Another boy has promised to come - but not yet in an appearance at 3 p.m.
Went to Clark sugar house in morning. Reboiling Conway molasses. Got a new "small boy" - Clayfield by name - about 13 years old.
