Bought a copy of Thackerey's works - Elder and Sons - London for $1.80 a volume, 22 volumes = $39.60. This is the best edition - except the edition deluxe, recently gotten up, with illustrations by Thackerey on India paper and which is very costly. The edition I got is an admirable library one - excellent paper and type in cloth. It would probably cost me $2 per volume to have it bound in calf, as I hope to do some of these days.Mr. Haley dined with us. Had much talk about matters and things in general and people in particular.
