April 13, 1883, Friday

Cloudy.  Went over some of Riverton planting (fall) it has improved, but will, I fear, be somewhat "gappy."
Wrote Ballejo returning butter cans.  Wrote Chiapella for a piece of beef and told him there was nothing to eat as yet with us - only succeeding in getting 1 chicken for dinner today.
Went to Clark sugar house.  Making sugar from Donaldson and Conway cistern bottoms.  Pretty good - but not uniform in colour. They wash it rather too much - or else run the centrifuges too long.  Drove through part of Conway and Donaldson, cane all improving.
